About our Namesake

TomLongboat Roadrunners is named in honour of Tom Longboat, a native Canadian who achieved prominence as a distance runner in the years leading up to World War I.

He won the Hamilton "Around-the-Bay" race in 1906, the Boston Marathon in 1907 (setting a course record) and the Toronto Marathon in 1906, '07 and '08. Longboat also represented Canada at the 1908 Olympic Games.

Coaching
Coach Timo Uuksulainen calls splits at a track workoutA number of our members are qualified to act as coaches, and interested members may request coaching through the club Coaching Coordinator.
Group Run Locations

We hold weekly social and training runs from the University Settlement Recreation Centre at 23 Grange Road on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm and Sunday mornings at 9:30 am.

Saturday morning runs are from the Grenadier Restaurant in High Park at 8:30 am. Although these runs bring together individuals of varying skill levels, efforts are made to ensure that no one runs unaccompanied, especially at times of the year when group runs take place after dark. We also hold indoor and outdoor track series with awards to overall and age-group winners.

Social Activities
SocialsIn addition to informal social gatherings after club runs, we have a very active program of organized social events throughout the year, including brunches, picnics and an annual general meeting and dinner dance.
