TOM LONGBOAT AWARD
The Longboat Roadrunners Club is proud to announce the establishment of the Tom Longboat Award in conjunction with the University of Toronto, Faculty of Physical Education & Health.
Tom Longboat (1887-1949) was one of Canada’s greatest marathon runners prior to World War I. Tom Longboat was an Onandagan from Ohsweken, Ontario who dominated long distance races between 1906 and 1912, and was the winner of the 1907 Boston Marathon.
The Tom Longboat Award is a financial award will be given on an annual basis to an aboriginal student who is a member of an Intercollegiate Team at the University of Toronto, with preference given to a long-distance runner. The award will be presented at the Faculty's annual T-Holders' Academic Excellence awards ceremony.
We invite your participation in this worthy and exciting initiative by making a donation to the Tom Longboat Award Fund through the University of Toronto website, or by cheque payable to the University of Toronto Tom Longboat Award and forwarded to Mr. Robin Campbell, Faculty of Physical Education & Health, 55 Harbord Street, Toronto ON M5S 2W6. A receipt for income tax purposes will be issued for all donations.
University of Toronto students who are eligible, according to the criteria of the award and as established by the policies of the University of Toronto, are encouraged to apply.

Award Criteria
To be awarded preferably to an aboriginal student at the University of Toronto who is a long distance runner on the Varsity Blues intercollegiate track and field team.
- This award must conform to all relevant CIS and OUA athletic league regulations which stipulates that the recipient be a continuing student-athlete in the institution providing the award and have achieved a 70% average or equivalent during the previous academic year as a student-athlete.
- This expendable award is made of donations from Longboat Roadrunners matched by other donors to the Faculty of Physical Education & Health for an annual award of $2,000.
- Aboriginal persons include persons who are status, non-status, Metis and Inuit.
- First consideration for this award is to an aboriginal student-athlete who is a member of the Varsity Blues intercollegiate Track and Field team. If there is no clear candidate then the next consideration is to an aboriginal student-athlete in another intercollegiate sport. If there is no clear candidate, then the next consideration is to a student-athlete on the intercollegiate Track and Field team. If there is no clear candidate, then the award shall be open to a student-athlete from any intercollegiate team.
